Our Story

I’m Louis Driving Hawk, founder of Sunup Hunt. I started hunting on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota where I’m a tribal member, then spent years chasing elk in Arizona with my dad.

The best part of hunting isn’t the shot – it’s those sunup moments when the world feels enormous and your problems feel small. That perspective? That’s what it’s really all about.

The Problem

I’m also an AI developer by trade. And after years of hunting and coding, I noticed something: the hunting information ecosystem is a mess.

Hunters waste countless hours sorting through contradictory advice, outdated regulations, and forum debates just to make basic decisions. We pay for multiple subscriptions, juggle different websites, and still end up confused.

The hunting industry seems more interested in selling gear than solving problems. The information is either locked behind paywalls or buried in advertising.

The Solution

So I built Sunup Hunt from my home in Valentine, Nebraska. It’s pretty simple: an AI assistant that combines regulations, statistics, and expert knowledge to answer hunting questions in plain language. No fluff, no nonsense.

But technology alone isn’t enough. The best hunting advice comes from people who’ve been there. That’s why we built a community where verified hunters can share real experiences and strategies.

What Makes Us Different

Three things that matter:

  1. We tell you the truth. No inflated success rates or unrealistic promises. Sometimes the honest answer is “the odds aren’t good this year” – and we’ll tell you exactly that.
  2. Real hunters sharing real knowledge. This isn’t about trophy photos and bragging rights. It’s about experienced hunters passing down what actually works – the kind of practical advice that makes a difference in the field.
  3. We care about conservation. Better-informed hunters make better stewards. Everything we build supports smarter, more ethical hunting because we want these opportunities to last for generations.

The Bottom Line

Hunting should be hard. That’s part of what makes it meaningful. But researching your hunt shouldn’t be.

Sunup Hunt handles the information overload so you can focus on what matters. We built it because we needed it ourselves. My beagle Holliday thinks it’s pretty good too, though he’s more interested in the jerky I keep in my hunting pack than in draw odds for Arizona elk. Join us if you’re tired of the noise and just want answers. We’ll save you time and improve your odds.

See you at sunup.
